White Day

Koreans know how to do commercialism.  I thought that Valentine's Day was a very over-hyped, made-up-by-Hallmark, force-you-to-be-ooey-gooey type of holiday but SoKo has stretched that one unnecessary holiday into three holidays.

Here Valentine's Day, February 14th, is where the girl in the relationship buys a gift for her boy and showers him with affection.  A month later is White Day, March 14th, and it's the boy's turn to gush with love over his girl (in a month he's had time to think of an equivalent gift or break up with the chica altogether).  Another month later there is Black Day, on April 14th, when all the un-coupled-up girls and guys get together wearing black and the singles can mingle.

In my opinion, the only truly worthwhile holiday to celebrate these days (aside from St. Patty's Day but that's a given) is Pi Day, March 14th (3.14).  It's a miracle that a dork like me found someone to love, but we skipped the Valentine's Day and White Day "holidays" and instead celebrated Pie Day with banana cream pie!
