Octopus

A few weeks ago, while Caroline and Kate were here making things fun, we had a great cause for fun: Mark's birthday.  The usual suspects gathered for a celebration and Mark chose a seafood restaurant for his birthday dinner.  Turns out the only seafood they serve is octopus, and it turns out that does NOT mean calamari!  But at least the menu was in English so we knew what we were getting ourselves into.

Andrew and I have eaten octopus in Korea quite a few times, but this place was not your run-of-the-mill restaurant because you walk by tanks of live octopus on the way in.  And one menu option is to select your own octopus from the tank.  The waitress brings it to your table alive and puts it in boiling water to kill it.  Eeesh.

Round 1: Drinks!  Definitely need to be able to wash those suckers down. (Get it, suckers?)

The octopus in the red sauce is dead and cooked but the gray looking ones were writhing around on the plate.  They would suction onto your tongue in your mouth!

Here is Caroline contemplating whether this is really a good idea.  At least you don't have to worry about the sushi not being fresh- it's so fresh that it hasn't stopped moving yet....

No hesitation for Andrew.  He says yum!
